Examination for Police Officer

The Maumee Civil Service Commission announces an open non-competitive examination for the position of lateral/entry-level police officer for the City of Maumee, Ohio.  A police officer enforces the laws and performs related tasks to preserve the safety and security of the City.  Purpose of this examination is to establish an eligibility list for police officer in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Maumee Civil Service Commission.

Age requirement:  Applicants shall be at least 21 years of age at appointment (applicants who are currently 20 should apply) and less than 40 years of age on August 19, 2022.

Education:  Must have an associate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.  The minimum equivalent is 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours.  College transcripts must be provided with the application.  Must be able to obtain OPOTA certification. 

Eligibility list:  After the list is established, eligible candidates are certified to the appointing authority to fill any vacancy or vacancies.  Each appointment shall be subject to successfully passing a physical examination, including drug screening and a psychological assessment conducted by consultants of the City's choice.  The City will pay cost of all such testing.

 Salary:  The current annual salary range for Patrolman is $60,735 - $77,271. 

 New hires will be required to serve a probationary period while in the field training officer program and for period of 260 actual work days.   An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for the position.

 The Maumee Police Division offers full testing services for the position of police officer through National Testing Network, Inc., at a cost of $55.00 to each candidate. To fill out an application and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select Law Enforcement and sign up for the City of Maumee Police Division.  A City of Maumee employment application and copies of: OPOTA Certification*if certified, College Transcripts, Birth Certificate (must be a citizen of the United States) and U.S. Driver’s License should be sent to:  City of Maumee, Civil Service Commission, 400 Conant Street, Maumee, OH 43537.  Exam must be taken by Tuesday, August 16, 2022. Application and documentation must be received by: Friday, August 19, 2022.

 Upon completion of the entry level exam, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to City of Maumee. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry level exam, have submitted all required paperwork and meet the minimum qualifications, will be placed on the City of Maumee Police Officer Civil Service eligibility list. The Maumee Police Division will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to continue to participate in other stages of the department selection process.

 National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the City of Maumee’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process.  All candidate results are provided to the Civil Service Commission and the Maumee Police Division where the final decisions are made.
