Attention, Teachers!
Great things are happening at the Wolcott House Museum
Complex. Take a look! Call the Maumee Valley
Historical Society office at 419-893-9602 for information
about tours, to schedule a tour, or to reserve a
"Traveling Trunk". Student-Focused
Tours - We are pleased to announce a number of
significant changes and additions to the tours offered at
the Wolcott House Museum Complex. We're confident that
these changes will augment your social studies curriculum,
while assisting you in meeting the State Social Studies
Content Standards. 1.
Student tours have been enhanced to include a more hands-on
approach to history. Since young guests will be
involved with recently acquired demonstration items and
reproductions, they will be interacting with history, rather
than just hearing about it. 2.
Special attention has been paid to the State Social Studies
Standards. Hands-on experiences have been
specifically planned to provide added exposure to the
knowledge and skills outlined in the State Grade Level
Indicators. 3.
Upon completion of their visit, students will be given a
copy of either a coloring book or activity book featuring
individuals, events and buildings profiled during the
tour. These keepsakes should promote extended learning
beyond the visit. 4.
Pre and Post-Visit Activities are provided on the Maumee
website http://www.maumee.org/recreation/wolcott.htm.
Teachers can get ideas for introducing their students to the
knowledge areas they'll be exploring prior to a visit, as
well as ideas for involving students in review and extension
activities afterwards. A
Resource Guide on Native Americans that's a "must"
for your classroom! Native Americans of
Northwest Ohio: A Resource Guide is a user-friendly
resource guide. It includes historical information,
along with a variety of student activities and
cross-curriculum projects, which may be presented in your
classroom or provided for students to complete at
home. This guide can be purchased at the Museum Store
on the grounds of the Wolcott House Museum Complex or at a
variety of area bookstores. A
"Traveling Trunk" to enhance your Native American
studies! Two "Traveling Trunks" are
available for teacher use in conjunction with the resource
guide mentioned above. The Trunks are filled with
hands-on historical items and reproductions, which
compliment the information and activities in the
guide.
