History Day Camp Activities for Children (3rd-6th grade)

June 26, 27, 28, 29th 2007

(Class size: minimum of 8, maximum of 12 participants per session)

 

   Tuesday June 26, 2007:  Pioneer Chores

10:00-12:00                Do the laundry, beat rugs, clean lamps, change the feather “ticks”, make candles and soap.  (Children may dress as pioneer children.)

1:00-3:00                    Repeat of morning session

 

   Wednesday, June 27, 2007:  Native American Indian Days

10:00-12:00                Learn how the early Native Americans used nature to meet their daily needs.  Make some

                                    simple craft items with Native American techniques.

1:00-3:00                    Repeat of morning session

 

   Thursday, June 28, 2007: Old Fashioned Food & Fun

10:00-12:00                Make some favorite foods the pioneers enjoyed including: Homemade Ice Cream, Butter,

Jam, and Lemonade.  Teamwork gets the job done!

1:00-3:00                    Repeat of morning session

 

    Friday, June 29, 2007:  Old Fashioned School Days

10:00-12:00                Experience a morning like the pioneer children did.  Write with quill pens, read from McGuffy readers, and do lessons on a slate.  (You may dress like the pioneers.  Boys wear overalls & straw hats.  Girls wear long dresses, with aprons or pinafores, and a bonnet or hair in braids.) Bring 2 large matching coffee cans to make  toy “stilts”.
