The Maumee Police Division will hold a Citizen Police Academy early this autumn.  The staff and officers of the Maumee Police Division believe the success of crime prevention and detection lies primarily with a strong partnership between the police and the community we serve.  The better we get to know each other, the more we can accomplish together.  This training is not designed to certify citizens to perform law enforcement services.  Its purpose is to enhance community relations and provide citizens with insights on the criminal justice system.

The Citizen Police Academy is designed to give members of the community an overview of what police work is like.  Instructors will be members of the Maumee Police Division.  The nine-week course will run from September 20 thru November 15, 2018.  Classes will be on Thursday evenings from 6-9 PM, at the Maumee Police Building, 109 E. Dudley St.

 Course Topics Include:

  • Constitutional Law
  • Use of Force
  • Entry Teams
  • Mock Scenarios
  • Firearms
  • Traffic Crash Investigation
  • Many more fascinating topics

For more information, contact Sgt. Josh Sprow at Ph. 419-897-7026 or sprow-joshua@maumee.org.  Academy attendance is open to adult members of the community. Class size is limited.  Applicants will have to agree to a background check as a condition of acceptance into the program.   The fee for the class is $30.00 for residents of Maumee, $25.00 for students, and $40.00 for non-residents.
