Doug
was elected to Maumee City Council in November 1999 and was
re-elected to 4 year terms in 2003 and 2007. He was
sworn in on January 7, 2008. Councilman Brainard ran for
City Council because he believes in the City and feels that
the community as a whole can make Maumee a desirable place to
live when we all work together regardless of political

Doug is Chairman of the Parks & Recreation and
Personnel Committees; and serves on the Finance & Economic
Development, Public Information, Public Utilities, and Safety Committees of Maumee
City Council.
- Born and raised in Maumee
- Graduated from Maumee High School in 1967
- Attended the University of Toledo, graduated from Owens
Technical College with an Associates Degree, and graduated
from Lourdes College with a Bachelor's Degree
- Served in the United States Army in Vietnam 1970-1971
and received an Honorable Discharge in 1972 with the rank
of Sergeant
- Retired from the Maumee Division of Police in 1999
- Served as Police Chief at the Northwest Ohio
Developmental Center
- Currently employed by the Lucas County Education Center
as the Supervisor of the Time Away Program
- Was named Officer of the Year in 1976
- Inducted into the American Police Hall of Fame
- Listed in the Who's Who of Law Enforcement
- Served on the Maumee Board of Education for 12 years
prior to his election on Maumee City Council, serving as
both Vice President and President of the Board
- Was married to Janice (Culver) for 24 years before she
lost a courageous battle with cancer in 1996
- Proud father of 2 sons, Jonathan who graduated from Ohio
State University and Jason, a junior at Maumee High School
- Hobbies include collecting antique and classic cars and
studying the history of Maumee
